When a major story breaks during a live broadcast, the entire pre-planned rundown can be scrapped instantly. The producer must quickly re-prioritise stories, communicate new cues to the anchor and control room, and coordinate with reporters who may be thrown on air with little notice.
This demands an extraordinary level of coordination. The assignment desk scrambles to get crews to the scene. Reporters may go live with preliminary information, updating as new facts emerge.
